Bedrock Geological Mapping
The Yukon has a diversity of geology but less than 10% is mapped at a scale suitable for detailed mineral exploration. The YGS is undertaking aggressive 1:50 000 scale bedrock mapping in the Yukon and contributes to the GSC's NATMAP Projects. These maps, associated Bulletins and newfound knowledge, aid explorationists, prospectors, land use planners and researchers. |

Petroleum-related Studies
The Yukon has eight sedimentary basins which are are favourable for petroleum resources. YGS is undertaking stratigraphic studies in several of these prospective areas. |

Surficial & Placer Studies
The surface of the Yukon is overlain by a diverse array of surficial sediments, including pre-glacial, glacial, and interglacial deposits, much of them containing placer gold. The Yukon placer industry still produces ~80,000 ounces of gold annually. |

Geophysical and Geochemical
Surveys
The YGS contributes to regional stream geochemical surveys and airborne geophysical surveys that are undertaken in the Yukon by the Geological Survey of Canada. |

Mineral Assessments
Land use, land claim and park planning exercises require thorough assessments of mineral potential. We use state-of-the-art GIS compilations of existing data, acquire new data, and use expert input to make assessments. |

Other Studies
The Yukon Geological Survey sponsors theses, is a contributor
to the Snorcle-Lithoprobe Project, the Ancient Continental NATMAP, the Central
Foreland
NATMAP, and are undertaking studies of strata hosting dinosaur footprints, and
participates in public education and outreach. |
